Description

1550 - Blackout from Kershaw and Ken Onion, Black Polyimide Handle, Black Plain Edge Blade

A bold, but basic knife that will get the job done is what you’ll find in the Blackout knife from Kershaw and Ken Onion. You’ll really enjoy using this knife. It was designed to work well and last a long time without unnecessary weight. It’s a barely there 3.5 ounces in the hand and when its fully opened the knife is a decent size at about 7 inches.

The Blackout is solid black in color, making it an excellent knife to use under cover of darkness or just to keep on display in the home. It also comes with a removable stainless steel pocket clip. The blade on the knife is made of Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel and coated in tungsten DLC. The handle is polyimide for its durability and light weight.

For safety Kershaw had added the Locking Liner and the SpeedSafe patented assisted opening system. The Locking Liner will securely hold your knife blade in place after opening, while the SpeedSafe system will allow the user to open the blade with a simple press on the thumb stud.

Locking Liner
Locks the blade into position after the blade is deployed. To release the locking liner simply press the spring loaded lock and the blade will easily fold back into the handle.

SpeedSafe®, the patented, assisted-opening system built into many of Kershaw's best-selling Ken Onion knives. SpeedSafe assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud.

The heart of the SpeedSafe system is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its halfmoon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.

Reviewer: SSG John Russell (US Army) from Manhattan, KS United States
One of if not the best knife I have ever owned. Always dependable for any use, stays sharp even after extended and rough handeling. Mine has been to Iraq twice and several other countries since I received it as a gift. Very pleased, would not change a thing it is the perfect all around knife. Good workmanship and quality at any price.

Best Damn Knife.......... November 19, 2007
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Kansas City, MO United States
The 1550 is the best damn knife I have ever owned.  I've had 4 and just ordered 2 more.  If I can keep my dogs from chewing the handle material off and don't lose any more I'll be happy!  This is an all around knife and I use and carry it for protection as it is easy and quick to get into action and is also great for field dressing deer and other game.  The 1550 is the only knife I will ever carry.  Don't ever stop making this model!

A good dam knive November 19, 2007
Reviewer: Dylan Nicholson from Woonsocket, RI United States
This is a good dam knive!  I used this knive about every day I was in the Army.  I now continue to use it as my everyday carry knive.  I like the metal the blade is made out of because it holds an edge like no knive I have ever used.  The only thing is that my tip broke off during my time in the Army.  I was using it "properly" so the tip broke. other then that, I have used and purtchased many other brands and styles of knives but this knive has out done them all.  I am now because of this knive only going to buy and use Kershaw knives!
