Description

1550ST - Blackout from Kershaw and Ken Onion, Black Polyimide Handle, Black Partially Serrated Blade

The Blackout knife from Kershaw and Ken Onion is a bold, basic knife that will get the job done. You’ll really enjoy using this knife with it’s partially serrated blade. It was designed to work well and last a long time without unnecessary weight. It’s a barely there 3.5 ounces in the hand and when its fully opened the knife is a decent size at about 7 inches.

The Blackout is solid black in color, making it an excellent knife to use under cover of darkness or just to keep on display in the home. It also comes with a removable stainless steel pocket clip. The blade on the knife is made of Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel and coated in tungsten DLC for some added strength and lasting edge. The handle is polyimide for its durability and light weight.

The Locking Liner and the SpeedSafe patented assisted opening system are both featured in the Blackout knife. The Locking Liner will securely hold your knife blade in place when fully opened, while the SpeedSafe system will allow the user to open the blade using the thumb stud.

Locking Liner
Locks the blade into position after the blade is deployed. To release the locking liner simply press the spring loaded lock and the blade will easily fold back into the handle.

SpeedSafe®, the patented, assisted-opening system built into many of Kershaw's best-selling Ken Onion knives. SpeedSafe assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud.

The heart of the SpeedSafe system is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its halfmoon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.

I have had my Kershaw about 7 yrs until resently I lost it out of my pocket. I loved it and will be getting a new one to replace it.

If you are thinking about this knife all I can say is "Get it, it's worth it"

Love my Kershaw November 19, 2007
Reviewer: William Vestal from Victorville, CA United States
I got mine right after this model came out, it even says Patent Pending. I have never had a problem with it just needs cleaned from time to time like any other knife but I wouldnt trade mine for any other, unless its the same model. If your looking for a Great knife this would be the best for the money.

Great Knife To Own November 19, 2007
Reviewer: Zac Lauenstein from DeWitt, NE United States
This was my first knife that I have ever purchased.  I have used it for several different details, including cutting through a seatbelt (with ease).  It is easy to use for anyone, and the blade retains a sharp blade.  I am very impressed with the design of the "open assist" and can not think of a bad thing to say about this knife.

I bought one of these knives two years ago.  I lost that one and have returned to buy two more.  I have used these knives in all kinds of setting. I would and do highly recommend this line of knives.

Reliable companion November 19, 2007
Reviewer: Erick Delsite from Dover, DE United States
I bought my Blackout over six years ago and it's been through a lot with me.  I use it as an everyday carry pocketknife and as my primary big/small game hunting knife.  It works great and I've never had any issues with this knife.  It's still tight, assisted opening works perfect, and even the black blade coating still looks great despite the heavy use it's seen.  It's easy to resharpen, but the 440A doesn't hold the edge very long when skinning game.  Still, should I ever lose this one, I'll buy another.  Highly recommend!
