1840 - Shallot from Kershaw, Stainless Steel Handle, Plain Edge Blade 

You’ll be surprised how well this knife cuts. Made by Kershaw and Ken Onion by Americans for the world, the Shallot is a sharp and long lasting little knife. It’s no ordinary onion!

The Shallot is made from all stainless steel construction. It features a Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel blade and a 410 stainless steel handle, making this knife stain and rust resistant. The Shallot comes with a limited lifetime warranty, so you don’t have to worry about this knife breaking down on you in a short period of time.

Excellent safety features are a part of what makes the Shallot 1840 such a great knife. It comes with the patented SpeedSafe assisted ambidextrous index-finger opener to easily slide open the blade when you need it. The knife also comes with a reversible/removable pocket clip for easy and convenient carrying. You can carry the Shallot tip up or tip down at an arm’s reach.

Frame Lock
Locks the blade into position after the blade is deployed. To release the frame lock simply press the spring loaded lock and the blade will easily fold back into the handle.

The Knife Features:

SpeedSafe®, the patented, assisted-opening system built into many of Kershaw's best-selling Ken Onion knives. SpeedSafe assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push using the Index-Open system. (Index-Open uses a protruding portion of the blade's finger guard. The user manually pulls back on the protrusion with the index finger to open the blade.)

The heart of the SpeedSafe system is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure on the Index-Opening system to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its halfmoon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.

As good or better than the Leeks April 8, 2009

What caught my eye and hand with this knife is that it seems to be a larger version of the Leek, with a few exceptions, and I love the Leek.  Since my hands are big and my fingers are thick, this Shallot is much more comfortable for me, it fits in my hand better and I can get a more secure grip on it.  It does not have the tip safety lock as does the Leek.  The blade is not as sensitive as the Leek and will not open accidentally as the Leek will do if the safety lock is not deployed.  I love all of these Kershaw knives and have not found a bad one, and I own ten.
