Description

1596 - Spec Bump from Kershaw and Ken Onion, Black G10 Handle, Black Plain Edge Blade

Talk about a cool looking knife! The Spec Bump Knife from Kershaw and Ken Onion makes for an excellent knife for anyone, including fishermen. This black handled knife is ergonomically designed for easy hold. Plus it features three dimensional texturing for a very secure grip in wet or slippery conditions. It also has a convenient lanyard hole.

The Spec Bump blade is coated in non-reflective black Tungsten DLC. Underneath the blade is made of S30V Stainless Steel. The handle is a 3D-machined G-10 compound, also making it temperature resistant in addition to providing a secure grip.

The Spec Bump provides two great safety features. The Stud Lock allows for easy release of the knife blade when closing it down. While the SpeedSafe assisted opening system allows the user to open the knife ambidextrously, one handed with a simple push. A metal pocket clip is mounted at the pivot of the Spec Bump knife.

Stud Lock
Lock release system that is contained entirely in the blade. The knife opens by pulling the kick back like most assisted opening knives today, but the lock release is contained in the blade thumbstud rather than in the handle.

The Knife Features:

SpeedSafe®, the patented, assisted-opening system built into many of Kershaw's best-selling Ken Onion knives. SpeedSafe assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or Index- Open system. (Index-Open uses a protruding portion of the blade's finger guard to give the user an alternative to the thumb stud. The user manually pulls back on the protrusion with the index finger to open the blade.)

The heart of the SpeedSafe system is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its halfmoon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.

Spec Bump by Kershaw November 19, 2007
Reviewer: Denny Vanderweerd from Grand rapids, MI United States
This folder is a very unique knife by kershaw in that the blade has a very different type of lock-up. The handles are of a nice smooth G-10 the blade is Sandvik a Swedish steel, the Assisted opening feature on this knife is solid and quick and opening and closing is a one handed affair some practice might be needed to assure this. I love how this knife feels in my hand and the balance is perfect! The quality is right up there with Benchmade. And the only thing I didn't like was the black coating they put on pocket clip it wore a little after a few uses so I polished it and gave it a satin finish more to my liking. The balde is really sharp and the "bump" in the middle gives it the name.
